Los Angeles Internship Opportunity with Raya for iOS or node.js SWE

Hi everyone, my name is Calvin Chueh and I graduated from Duke in 2016 studying Computer Science.

I joined Raya directly out of college after speaking to one of their earliest team members – Jared Morgenstern – who was the third designer at Facebook and launched the Like button. Raya is his next pursuit after being at Facebook for 7 years. I joined after my initial conversation with him plus what I had heard about Raya as the place where students, entrepreneurs, artists, athletes – and really anyone passionate about what they do in the world – network and meet one another. It was recently the plot line of the TV show Billions for two episodes last night.

We’re looking to hire a full time engineer or intern for the summer focused on helping us build and ship a project that I’m personally leading and extremely passionate about.

Students who have shipped iOS products or consider themselves extremely proficient in node.js should apply for this role.

Send an email to Calvin Chueh chchueh24@gmail.com with subject: Internship. Include a copy of your resume and link to your github where the code that you’re most proud of is showcased.

Thank you so much! This will change your life – eager to talk about it with anyone.

Charlotte, NC Opportunity with Hexlets, LLC for Product Launch, Online & Social Media Push

Hi team, I’m Matt Sumner (EMBA ’14) about to launch my fourth small business. This time it’s in the custom, interchangeable jewelry space. I need an online marketing rockstar to help me with our Kickstarter campaign (solely for marketing purposes) and then the overall social media outreach associated with launching a new product.

Hexlets is a cool jewelry concept that I recently patented which allows you to upload custom photos and have them printed on interchangeable caps. Those caps then affix to a number of different jewelry bases so you can completely customize your look from day to day. That may sound a bit confusing at first- but the concept is really simple and fun. Check out our site (under construction) here: www.Hexlets.com (the password to enter is GetHexed). I also have some pretty hot licenses lined up through an NYC distribution partner once the concept is proven… and a really cool gaming bracelet for boys.

What I’m looking for is someone who wants to get down in the dirt of a true startup during a summer internship- you’ll be given complete access to everything and get the chance to drive the ship. You like to learn by doing? You’re not going to get much of a better chance to see how involved a “simple product startup” can really be. The most important open need I have is getting the word out during and after our Kickstarter campaign and setting up all of our social media programs (aka our launch). Once that is done, you can help with operational and production setup, manufacturing and stock, order fulfillment- and whatever else you are interested in.

If you are interested in this internship please tell me why you are a good fit for Hexlets and how you can help take us to the next level this year. Resumes are nice too, but I’m more interested in the person than the paper, so tell me about you and how you see your role develop within Hexlets. Look forward to hearing from you!

College Fellow Program with Female Founders Fund

Female Founders Fund (F3 for short) is an early stage venture capital firm in NYC that invests exclusively in female-led businesses. To help us keep a pulse on what is exciting in the market, we’re recruiting ten students at leading undergraduate universities to participate in the inaugural F3 College Fellowship program.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This ongoing program has been designed to help us collect insights from millennial consumers that can better serve us as investors and the companies that we are backing.

As an F3 College Fellow, you will be expected to participate in either a short video call or group activity each month. These sessions will be for one of two purposes:

(1) To capture your insights about what technologies and businesses are successfully tapping into the university market i.e what are the latest technology tools/apps that you and your peer group are using on a regular basis.

(2) To conduct focus groups for feedback on the products and services being developed by companies in our investment portfolio and deal pipeline.

For students who are interested in business, entrepreneurship, communications, design, technology, or venture capital, this will give you on-the-ground training in assessing new apps and services, while teaching you how to think critically about the value proposition and design of products that you interface with in daily life.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

Must be current undergraduate

This program is ongoing (not limited to the academic year), open to students across all universities, and we ask that each Scout participates for 12 months.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS

F3 College Fellows will be catapulted into a world-class professional network that most students do not encounter until they have entered postgraduate programs.

As beta-testers, all Fellows will gain experience working alongside the engineering and design teams of leading tech startups, have an opportunity to mingle and meet with inspiring entrepreneurs, and get to know some of the country’s leading investors.

In addition to network access, the F3 College Fellows program offers students an opportunity to hold a “role” in the tech industry across entirety of their college career. Fellows will also receive exclusive discounts, invitations, and early-access to internships and job opportunities from within F3’s growing portfolio.

Santa Ana, CA Internship Opportunity with Coneybeare Cleantech for Finance, Web Development, and Marketing internships

Hi everyone, my name is Cody Harrison and I graduated from Duke in 2012 with a BA in Environmental Science and Policy. For the past five years I have been working as a sustainability consultant and below is an opportunity for a few different internships with one of my clients.

Coneybeare Cleantech is first and foremost a sustainability specific recruiting and staffing agency. However, it is continually expanding into the sustainability space, first with a boutique eco B&B in Colombia, then an event series, and now with an online sustainability marketplace.

The Coneybeare Marketplace will allow individuals and organizations looking to either continue or begin their journey toward sustainability to search for the products and personnel they need, read reviews of both, and complete the financial transactions necessary to get their project moving.

We are looking for three enthusiastic and competent individuals who can help us with:

Financial forecasts:
We have come up with a preliminary budget and cash flow forecast and would like someone to continue from where we left off, digging a little deeper into the numbers to make sure they pencil out, extending them another 2-3 years into the future, and creating pro forma P&L statements at least 3 years out.

Web Development:
Including the information technology aspects of bringing this marketplace to life. We would like someone that can improve the searchability of the consultants and organizations that our marketplace features, add a system of starred reviews for the products and consultants listed on the marketplace, geotag marketplace participants on an interactive map, and add eCommerce functionality to the site. Our stretch goal is to also figure out a clean way to host all the products from our participating suppliers so that customers don’t have to go to each individual supplier’s website to purchase products. This will also allow us to monetize the Marketplace by taking a cut of these sales.

Sales and marketing of this new platform.
We have come up with a preliminary strategy for how to get the marketplace online, but we are struggling with how to find people who would actually use it to conduct business, thus a big part of this role would be lead generation. We are also looking for someone that could create content via blog, other social media, and podcast potentially.

Some of the work can be done remotely, but someone in the greater Los Angeles area that could show up in person at times would be ideal. Hours are flexible and for non-public facing meetings we don’t care if you wear sneakers (as long as you practice good hygiene). On this project you’ll mainly be working with
Cody Harrison and Coneybeare’s founder Victoria Betancourt.

Candidates must be open to feedback, not afraid to ask questions, be adaptable, curious and gracious.

How to apply to Coneybeare Cleantech, LLC, 2003
N. Broadway, Santa Ana, CA 92706:

Contact Victoria Betancourt at (714) 547-8546, vicky@coneybeare.com or Cody Harrison at (434) 242-6879, charrison@corona-enterprises.com

Cofounder Opportunity with Ziuli Interactive for Technical Director/CTO Role

Hi everyone, my name is Patrick Mills—friends call me Rick—and I graduated from Duke in 2012 from the School of Law in the Law & Entrepreneurship LLM program.

Currently, I am the vision guy and a cofounder at Ziuli Interactive (pronounced ‘JULY’ just like the month), a startup technology-focused, digital publishing company. We are currently based in north Louisiana; however, this cofounder opportunity is a work from home / Duke position.

If you are reading this, then let me ask you: if you wrote a book, how would you publish it? Who would read it? How would you get paid? The answer, sadly, is murky at best. Since the late 1970’s, readership has been declining in the United States; today, more than a quarter of Americans did not read a single book in the past year (27%). Moreover, writers struggle now more than ever. At best, agencies accept 1-2% of authors for representation. Fewer still are ever published. Even fewer achieve their dreams of becoming a full-time writer by earning a sustainable income from their craft. We, however, plan to change this broken dynamic.

Currently, Ziuli Interactive is working with several Louisiana-based angel investors to develop a mobile/web application that will repackage literary content to appeal to a Millennial audience while at the same time providing authors with a middle ground between traditional and self-publication. Unlike traditional publishers, we cater to a wider array of would-be authors; however, unlike self-publishing, we offer authors access to professional editing, art, and marketing services. We also allow authors to retain ownership of their works/IP.

Currently, we’re looking to bring on a cofounder to fill the role of technical director/CTO. The technical director will be responsible for development of our web/mobile application technology, UI/UX development, and website design (in conjunction with design professionals). The position will also be responsible for reporting to our Board of Directors regarding development progress and explaining technology to outside sources such as potential investors or media. As the company launches and expands, the technical director will recommend additional hires, capital purchases in his/her area (server reqs, etc), and manage staff running the day-to-day, technical operations of the business.

Our ideal candidate would be a current or alumni MBA with a background in CS or engineering with the requisite programming skills. However, we also encourage undergraduates in these majors or graduate students without business/startup experience or education to apply. Students with an interest in publishing, entertainment, film/TV, video game development, or digital marketing are especially encouraged to apply.

Please understand that we are a startup/pre-revenue company. Initial compensation will be an ownership stake in Ziuli Interactive. Ownership package offered will be based on the qualifications of the candidate. Future compensation will be determined by management as revenue allows the initial team to begin drawing a salary from operations.

How to apply: Please send an email to Ziuli@ziuli.com with subject: Ziuli Cofounder. Include a copy of your resume.

Miami or Virtual Internship Opportunity with Ventures Edge to Help Launch Apps

I am a Duke alum (BS, Computer Science ’88, MBA ’92, Law ’92). I actively practice law, manage technology projects and help launch new businesses. I have two projects that are nearing launch, and I am looking for someone interested in taking the reins to launch them.

I. Circle Dial – This app is ready to be submitted for approval to the Apple app store. A person helping with this should be interested in how to launch an App successfully (on a low budget) on the IOS store. You would work on pricing, developing and testing marketing strategies, and try to build a following for the app as a MVP and likely through 1 or 2 releases over the summer.

The Problem: As many as 90% of a person’s valued contacts do not receive the same level of communication as BEFORE social media, SMS and email popularized. They fall through the communication cracks. Whether they be family, friends, or business associates, these contacts are simply not getting noticed and so, no correspondence is occurring.

The Solution: A mobile app that keeps a schedule to prompt you to call these contacts periodically. Once a call is done, the contact called is put at the end of the list. If a call cannot be completed, then an alert can be set to remind you at a later time. The list is a circle, and goes on forever. (This is not a CRM, it is an app dedicated to one purpose, staying in touch irrespective if you have a specific need to communicate).

II. Law App – the second app is more confidential. It is a tool for a niche part of the documentation for private companies seeking equity, and also targets large law-firms as an enterprise application. The first version is a simple, but functional website to help startups identify “Risk Factors” for their securities offerings.. The project also has some interest (for some) semantic and text analysis features. This one is more intellectual, with securities law knowledge and tech experience helpful. The goal would be to launch by end of summer.

I am fine considering you a “Founder”, and helping you build a narrative of your leading the final technical release and launch of a new product.

Please send me an email if you are interested, with a CV.

Good luck! Mike Greenberg mike@venturesedge.com

Internship Opportunity with EvanMarcKatz.com for Information Marketing

I’m Evan Marc Katz. I’m not only a Duke graduate from the Class of ’94, but I’m a dating coach and author of four books who specializes in helping smart women understand men and find love. Let’s just say my Public Policy degree did little to prepare me for my future career. 🙂

And that’s one of the greatest things about being an intern – you get exposed to new ideas and watch new doors open right before your eyes. I took jobs in screenwriting, sales, and customer service and turned them into a seven-figure business. Now, I want to help you find your passion and apply it, too.

For 14 years, I have built a unique brand in the dating/relationship/information marketing space – giving away an immense amount of free advice on my blog, newsletter, podcast, Facebook page, and YouTube channel – all with the end goal of getting women’s email addresses and encouraging them to invest in products and programs that helps them make healthier relationship choices.

We are looking for students interested in tech, information marketing, and social media, and find the topic of relationships to be as fascinating as we do.

As part of a virtual team (we have employees in Colorado, Dallas, Ohio, Connecticut and Canada), you can largely work from anywhere, although it’s a bonus if you’re in Los Angeles with me. When you work with my team, you are a trusted partner who is part of something much bigger – for there is nothing more important or powerful than helping people create lasting marriages.

As for your summer internship job description, I believe it’s something we would create together. Here are the traits we’re looking for in an intern:

Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit. You see problems in advance and figure out how to fix them without sitting around waiting for direction. Everyone here works from home, so you have a lot of freedom to come and go as you please as long as you get your work done.

Tech savvy. We use a lot of software. WordPress. InfusionSoft. iMember360. Visual Web Optimizer. Zapier. Rackspace. Sync2CRM. NetDNA. TypeForm. Opt in Monster. EverWebinar. FixYourFunnel. CloudFlare. Feedblitz. GetResponse. Basecamp. Podio. Quip. Dropbox. You get the point. You don’t have to be programmer to be an asset to us. But it does help if you could work within our existing systems.

Organized. We would rather do something right than do it fast. That means paying attention to things like spelling, font, margin, Excel cells, and text links. It’s not sexy; it just produces a great experience for the consumer. .

A positive and service-oriented attitude. There are no bad eggs at the company; everyone on our team is “good people.” If you do your job, we’ll praise you to the high heavens and give you a ton of autonomy. If you don’t, we’ll help you along until you can fly on your own.

Analytical problem solver – Having a heavily trafficked website produces immense amount of numbers. Metrics. KPIs. Google Analytics. Click thrus. Conversions. Facebook retargeting. If you have a logical mind and the ability to see how the numbers connect to our profits, you’ll bring a lot to the table.

Social media savvy. We have a blog that got 10M uniques last year. We’d like to get our YouTube channel doing similar numbers.

Belief in our mission. I’m a male dating and relationship coach who helps women all over the world find love. It would be ideal if you found dating, relationships, gender dynamics, behavioral economics and internet marketing as fascinating as we do.

As you know, jobs are what you make of them. Our company is doing well, but with your help, ingenuity and hard work, we can positively impact more people. On a more selfish note, we can give you a unique hands-on experience that will transform the way you choose your future career.

Sorry for being long-winded, but your job is important and I want to ensure a proper fit for both of us.

Please send an email to Kim DeYoung at kim@evanmarckatz.com with subject: Internship. Include a copy of your resume, but note that your cover letter (WHY you want to work here and WHAT you see yourself doing) matters a lot more to us.

Hi everyone, my name is Kimberly Holmes Wiggins, and I graduated from Duke in 2002 with a degree in Public Policy Studies. I’m a journalist who is now venturing into the tech world. I’m taking over development of my late husband’s business idea. Rasheed Wiggins was also a Duke alum who graduated from both Fuqua and Trinity.

R-hyv is Rasheed’s brainchild. It’s all about getting people to work together online in a new and exciting way. We haven’t officially launched yet. I’m ensuring my husband’s dream becomes a reality. I’m in Maryland. My developers are not. You can work from anywhere.

I’m looking for an intern for the summer (or possibly sooner) to help me launch the site and join something truly unique and inspiring. Initially, the position will be unpaid. However, depending on your drive, there will be an opportunity for commission. You will focus on helping us carve out an interesting niche in the social media world. The possibilities are truly limitless.

Students with an interest in technology, social collaboration, digital, and (especially) marketing should apply.

Send an email to kimberly@therhyv.com with the subject: Internship. Include a copy of your resume.

Exciting On-Campus Opportunity from Duke Alum Max Hodak ’12 (Deadline April 14)

Max is co-founder of Neuralink, which was recently co-founded/invested in by Elon Musk, and connects brains to artificial intelligence.

Max previously co-founded Transcriptic, which raised about $25 million, the robotic cloud laboratory.

Date:
Saturday, April 22, 1pm-4pm
Location: West Campus (location TBD)

Max is recruiting for both Transcriptic and a new brain-machine interfacing company he’s starting with Elon Musk, and wants to meet the best STEM students in the graduating class or graduate schools.

There are a few really interesting opportunities that have come across Max’s desk in the last year that would be a good fit for a motivated young team but he can’t run/manage himself, so if anyone really wants to start a company but doesn’t necessarily have the right idea yet, he is always happy to talk to a couple of interesting young entrepreneurs trying to get started.

Are you interested in science or entrepreneurship? Duke Alum Max Hodak is offering interesting recruitment opportunities for a new biotech startup! Max studied biomedical engineering at Duke from 2007-2012. While at Duke, he founded MyFit, a company that matches students with prospective colleges. He was taking classes at Duke while running the company in the Bay Area, and had to fly back and forth across the country each week. MyFit was sold to Naviance in 2010.

After graduating from Duke, Max founded Transcriptic, a San Francisco-based robotic cloud laboratory that allows scientists to start a biotech company from anywhere in the world. Mr. Hodak is looking for top STEM students and entrepreneurs who are interested in working with a new brain machine interfacing company.

Max Hodak will be meeting students one-on-one on Saturday, 4/22 for 20-minute meetings.

Interested in meeting Max? Send an email to Howie Rhee at
hwr2@duke.edu with subject “Max Hodak”.
Deadline is April 14th at 11:59pm ET.

To make it easy for us to process…
1) In the first sentence please identify whether you’d like to speak with Max about:
Transcriptic
Neuralink
Starting a company in the Bay Area with one of Max’s ideas
Help starting a company now

2) Tell us what year you are, and what school you are in at Duke (and what are you studying)

3) Tell us what your current upcoming/summer plans are. (Do you have a job? What company? What city?)

4) What is your phone number (in case Max needs to text you about logistics, the day of the meeting)

5) You can write a brief cover email if you’d like.

6) And attach a resume and/or link to your LinkedIn.

Local Internship Opportunity With RocketBolt for Sales/Marketing/Social Media

Hi everyone, my name is Andy Roth and I graduated from Duke Law in 2011. Instead of practicing law, I went into startups.
I’m currently the Head of Customer Success at RocketBolt, and we’d love to hire some Duke interns this summer!

RocketBolt is a proud Durham startup with two Duke alumni (and 3 Duke degrees) on the team. We’re
looking to round out our summer internship class with smart, motivated students who are willing to learn what a true “startup experience” is like.

At RocketBolt, we need help with our social media presence, with identifying potential customers, and with engaging those customers in innovative and effective ways.
In addition to that, there will be ample opportunity for students to find their own projects they’d like to work on and pursue.

We’re looking for full- or part-time interns, and we’re happy to provide a flexible schedule and the ability to work remotely.

We don’t care about skill sets. We’ll teach you what you need to succeed with us. Because we’re a small team, interns have a real chance to make a significant impact on the company. Trust us, your experience won’t be wasted on busywork! If you’re interested in learning more, email me at andy@rocketbolt.com. Please attach a resume if you have one.
