Our Community Director for the Bullpen, Marie-Angela Della Pia, talks about Duke I&E’s new space in booming downtown Durham.
Q: Tell us about your role as Community Director for the Bullpen?
A: The Bullpen is I&E’s new event and flexible work space in downtown Durham. We’re creating a hub for entrepreneurship in the Duke community and the local community. The Bullpen is a place to work, to meet, or host events. We also feature speakers, workshops, and I&E programs and events that provide assistance to startups. In my role as director, I manage all the space here at the Bullpen, handling event management and building community partnerships. I’m the person to talk to about how the space works and how to reserve space. Students and alumni can reserve space by emailing me at email@example.com. You can also find out important information about what kind of space is available at entrepreneurship.duke.edu/bullpen.
Q: What led you to this role?
A: I was involved in the entrepreneurship community in the Triangle while I was in graduate school. I saw the amazing things that were happening and I knew I wanted to help bridge the gap between the university and the local entrepreneurial community by helping students, staff, and alumni learn about entrepreneurship. There are great resources in the Triangle; great people to meet and lots of activities going on. The area is booming right now and there’s such a spirit of “Let’s do this!” I was so lucky when a job opened up at I&E. I found a place that was already doing exactly what I hoped to do. In this new role as Community Director, I’m able to run this incredible space and reach out to community partners that I know and figure out ways we can collaborate.
Q: What else should we know about the Bullpen?
A: This space is for Duke students, staff, faculty, and alumni, and for members of the local entrepreneurship community. This is a place for people to collaborate. Do you need a conference room? We have conference rooms. Do need somewhere to work on your idea? We’ve got space for that. If you are interested in using the space, feel free to stop by. If you want to schedule an event, just email me! And, we’re accessible. We have parking, and we’re close to the Bull City Connector and close to East Campus.
