Community Empowerment Fund (CEF)

The Community Empowerment Fund offers savings opportunities, financial education, and assertive support to individuals who are seeking employment, housing, and financial freedom. The opportunities for employment and greater housing that CEF advances motivate participants to build personal assets, gain higher income, engage in healthy community, and sustain transitions out of poverty. CEF’s Durham branch was established the summer of 2011, and serves members living in Durham, NC. The CEF-Durham advocate team consists of 40 advocates from Duke University who meet members on-site at transitional housing communities across Durham. We work closely with staff at our partner sites to coordinate resident care with CEF’s financial services.
