Duke Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC)

Duke Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC)

Learn by doing as you put your skills into practice by stepping directly into the role of a venture capitalist in the Duke Venture Capital Investment Competition.

VCIC is not a case competition, it is a real-world simulation of venture investing. Student teams conduct due diligence on actual startups, evaluate investment opportunities, prepare term sheets, and defend their recommendations before experienced venture capitalists. The competition is intense, fast-paced, and designed to mirror the pressure and ambiguity investors face every day.

What makes Duke VCIC unique is that students learn venture capital by doing it. Teams are judged by Duke alumni and friends that are practicing VCs, creating opportunities to build meaningful relationships with professionals in the industry. Those interactions often become mentorship opportunities, internships, and career connections.

The winning undergraduate and MBA teams will advance to represent Duke in the Global VCIC competition, the world’s largest venture capital competition, featuring more than 120 university and graduate school teams worldwide.

VCIC is the only competition where students become VCs for the day while startups experience a realistic fundraising process. And it all begins here at Duke.
