Make It Real

Have an idea and need to build it? Looking for a place to work on your startup? Duke and the Triangle region have numerous spaces and facilities devoted to prototyping equipment, workspaces for lease, startup incubators and accelerators, and beyond.

The downloadable Space & Facilities Guide lists spaces throughout Duke and the Triangle where researchers (faculty, research staff, post-doctoral scholars, and graduate students), students, social innovators (those pursuing innovative solutions to social problems), alumni, and community members can advance their work.

The Bullpen

The Bullpen, I&E’s home in bustling downtown Durham, serves as the hub for innovation and entrepreneurship at Duke. The Bullpen features collaboration, classroom, and event spaces. Located on the third floor of the Imperial Building, built in 1916 by the Imperial Tobacco Company, the Bullpen preserves historical design components while providing a modern and environmentally sustainable home for I&E.

The Foundry

The Foundry provides 7,600 square feet of project space for Duke student teams, faculty, and staff focused on engineering, energy, entrepreneurship, and sustainability to build ideas from the ground up. The space features optics and electronics shops, light machining tools, workbenches, teaching and meeting spaces, and dedicated space for short- and long-term projects.
