Don is an entrepreneur focused on investing in and building small companies. Don has extensive experience in manufacturing, plastics, turn-arounds, and bolt-on acquisitions.
In 2002, Don acquired Blue Ridge Plastics, LLC, a plastics recycling company with expertise processing difficult-to-recycle plastics. As CEO and co-owner, Don was responsible for 10x growth over seven years. Blue Ridge Plastics was purchased by a division of ITW in 2008.
In 2004, Don purchased an interest in Hurricane Kayaks, Inc., a manufacturer of light weight recreational kayaks. He subsequently led the acquisitions of Native Watercraft and Liquidlogic Kayaks (2015) and Bonafide Kayaks (2019). Today, the combined company (BIG Adventures) is a leading manufacturer of premium fishing and recreational kayaks located in Asheville, NC.
Also in 2004, Don acquired an interest in Accu-Form Polymers, Inc., a manufacturer of custom, molded plastic parts for a diverse range of OE customers. Building on Accu-Form’s capabilities, Don led the acquisitions of Eclipse Canopy (2014) and Cooltops, Inc. (2022) to create a leading manufacturer of molded plastic canopy accessories for tractors and commercial mowers. These companies are located in Warsaw, NC.
Don graduated from Fuqua in 1990 and earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University in 1986. Don lives with his wife in Durham, NC and has three grown children.
